Transit

Herndon started as a railway town. Now, we are the only town in Virginia with a Metro stop in it. Our town has seen so much growth, but much of that has been car-centric. While a car is a necessity in this region, I promise to work to improve pedestrian accessibility and add more bike lanes to the roads that need them.

  • More Crosswalks: Crosswalks are magical. They ensure drivers know to look out for pedestrians in that area. But there are areas on Elden and the Herndon Parkway that don’t have them, forcing pedestrians to make risky crossings that frustrate both drivers and pedestrians.

  • Protected Bike Lanes: I witnessed a woman almost lose her life while biking on Elden Street. With the W&OD in our town, the lack of bike lanes puts bikers at risk. But it isn’t as simple as paint on the street, protected bike lanes are proven to be safer than unprotected ones.

  • Pedestrian Pathways: Too often, the only accommodation for pedestrians is 3 feet of concrete on the side of a busy four lane road. Dedicated pedestrian pathways like the Sugarland Run Trail stitch communities together, giving people an option to walk rather than rely on a car.

Transparency

Traffic ordinances, public works decisions, tax raises, these are the things that impact us every day. We deserve a Town Council that is transparent and effective. Elected leaders serve the community and are responsible for explaining to the community why they made the decisions they did.

  • Office Hours: While serving on Town Council is considered a part-time job by some, I see it as a full-time responsibility. That is why if I’m elected to serve on the Town Council, I am committed to making myself available to the community so we can chat about issues or discuss things that are going on in the Town.

  • Community Engagement: Our town has a number of events that are powered by volunteers. It is my belief that as a leader, it is my responsibility to set the example for others. So whether that is Friday Night Live, WinterMarkt, or a community cleanup, I will be there right alongside other volunteers, ensuring that these events continue to succeed.

Transformation

Northern Virginia is an expensive region, Herndon was a cheaper option for many. But now, people are being forced to leave Herndon as prices here catch up to the rest of the region. That impact is felt everywhere. Action is needed now to reverse this trend.

  • Affordable Housing: New development by the Metro is a prime opportunity to add affordable housing to Herndon. By requiring that developers set aside a percentage of new units for affordable housing, we can ensure that Herndon remains a community for all, not just the lucky few who got here first.

  • Vacant Properties: Whether it is empty office buildings on the Herndon Parkway or vacant buildings and lots downtown, Herndon has a variety of spaces that aren’t being used. I promise to work with developers to find ways to redevelop these areas into spaces that provide new opportunities for the community.
